This is intended to be a relatively enjoyable practice activity to help cement core ideas of protein synthesis through an analogous simulation. Students work in groups to transcribe and translate original and mutated DNA sequences into English sentences using words embedded into a codon chart. Students analyze the type and effect of mutations on resulting sentences. Includes 10 variations for groups or independent practice. Before beginning activity, students must complete an included Vocabulary Cloze Passage to ensure comprehension of vocabulary and concepts needed to complete activity. Includes teacher notes and answer key.
