PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Proverbs, Adages, and Idioms (L.4.5b and L.5.5b) PowerPoint Lesson
Students will learn figurative language through this 51 slide interactive PowerPoint that explains, gives examples, and asks for explanations of common idioms, proverbs, and adages.
For this product, we have not focused on the differences between adages and proverbs. We have simply defined them as “wise sayings that teach life lessons”.

This product is aligned to the following Common Core Standards CCSS

L.4.5b and L.5.5b

Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings.

Recognize and explain the meaning of common idioms, adages, and proverbs.

This presentation boasts the following:
Presentation begins by explaining idioms and gives examples. Then asks students to explain common idioms (correct explanations are given with a click)
Students then are taught what adages and proverbs are. Presentation continues by asking students to play a quick game of “finish the adage”. Explanations of adages and proverbs used are then given with a click.

Our presentation concludes with some historical perspective of where some common proverbs and adages came from, and reviews the important differences between idioms and adages/proverbs.
