Author's purpose is easy as PIE, but proving it can be more difficult! This worksheet can be used as a literacy station, or as a small group activity, to ensure students truly understand why the author is writing the passage. This organizer works wonderful with nonfiction articles (ex. Time for Kids) and short picture books.
For an added twist, fill in a few of the boxes and ask the students to focus on the blanks. For example, provide the author's purpose and have the students find the text evidence to match.
The possibilities are endless. Enjoy!
