This project is used as a culminating activity after reading "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Raven" and "Masque of the Red Death" (you can incorporate any of Poe's stories in this).
Students will work in pairs and each have a role: Edgar Allan Poe and the Psychologist. Poe's role will choose one of the mental disorders described on the worksheet (and one they believe they can find textual evidence for from the stories we read). They will create a diary entry, Instagram reel and answer the psychologists questions.
The psychologist will come up with a series of questions to ask Poe. Each question should address an aspect of each mental disorder because it is there job to "diagnose" their patient. They will ask a series of open-ended and close-ended questions, analyze the diary entry and Instagram account, and write a summary in their case notes file. They will write their final diagnosis and explain why.
In the end, I let some students role play in front of the class and let them wear the Poe-stache! Mustache worksheet attached.
