Psychology Research Methods
Everyday Learning's Short-Term Memory Experiment
packet includes an in-class psychology experiment you can use with 3-, 6-, or 9-student volunteers. Alternatively, you can break your psychology class into three groups and have them complete the memory experiment before comparing results.
In this experiment, students listen to a set of 10 words before attempting to see how well they can remember the list from their short-term memory. The experiment consists of three groups of word lists that range in level of word retrieval difficulty. The packet contains three sets of grouped word lists, for a total of 90 words.
Also included are Extension Ideas that encourage students to develop memory strategies that may help them retain certain types of short-term memories more accurately.
