Puberty is TOUGH, especially for those with special needs. Providing a child with a social story about the stages of puberty will allow them to better understand what is happening to their body and that they are okay.
I created this resource to support my learners with autism but could be used for any child at any level of ability and need, but typically in Middle School and High School years. Individuals with autism have a great visual strength that supports their understanding of the world around them, so why not use these fun Smarty Symbols help build a better understanding of just what is happening to their bodies.
Social Stories included:
Book one: Her breasts are getting bigger, she has hair growing on her underarms and private areas, and that she is okay. This story also talks about who to go to if she has questions and that other girls have changing bodies too.
Book two: This second book in this series focuses on wearing clean clothes each day and wearing a bra each day.
Book three: In this story, topics covered include: wearing a bra, hair on private areas, beginning menstruation, how and when to use a pad, and emotions during menstruation.
