Take read-aloud to a whole new level as students practice good physical and vocal speaking skills through dramatic re-enactments of famous speeches and poems!

In this 6-page project, students will:
• Read directions and choose a speech or poem (from a suggested starter list)
• Analyze the purpose and content of the text (reading activity)
• Practice their spoken text, getting feedback from a friend or adult
• Present their read-aloud to the class (or a small group if you choose), using the provided rubric
• Take notes during other students’ speeches

Great for CCSS non-fiction reading and speaking, this project is a great way to get students comfortable with older texts and with speaking in general. Ready for a speech class or general ELA, it also has good potential for ESL students. (Since they don’t have to WRITE the text, they can focus on finding their inner actors and just perform it!)

This activity pairs REALLY well with my "15 Minutes of Fame" Speaking Project, but it can certainly be used on its own!
