Rubric for public speaking, presentations, and speeches
-This is a concise, but effective, rubric that both you and your students can use to evaluate and assess student presentations and speeches.
★ On the left side, I have included questions regarding the content of student presentations/speeches including:
► Does the presentation start with an attention getting statement or hook?
► Does the presenter state his or her purpose/thesis?
► Does the speech include clear ideas linked to one another and supported by evidence?
► Does the speech conclude effectively?
► Is the visual aid effective?
► What are general suggestions for the speaker? How can he/she improve the presentation?
For each question, the evaluator answers yes/no and provides feedback.
★ On the right side, I have included space to rate and provide feedback on the presenter's:
► Eye contact
► Vocal clarity/volume
► Use of visual aid
Do note that all criteria/questions can be customized to reflect the expected content of the presentation or speech.
★ I have found this rubric to be immensely effective, and I hope you will as well!
