Product Description

Integrate speaking and listening with this research assignment! In this step by step lesson, your students will draw the name of a US president to conduct research. Your students will then select a presidential speech to analyze, and present in front of an audience. This lesson is aligned to the CCSS Speaking and Listening Standards (6-8th grade).

The goal of this lesson is two-fold. Not only will your students have an opportunity to practice public speaking skills, but they will conduct research to dive deeper into a study of a US president. It is important for not only the speaker to understand the context of the speech he or she is presenting, but that the audience understands this as well. Prior to giving the presidential speech, each student will provide the audience with a short background, including the context and purpose of the speech he or she is giving. All graphic organizers and rubrics are included!

This resource includes:

  • Detailed lesson plan & suggestions
