Public speaking assignments can cause a lot of angst in our students. However, if we slow things down and spend more time on the speaking process, we can take some of that anxiety away.

Use this lesson plan to get your students engaged in writing and speaking. The concept of a rant will capture their attention, as teenagers usually have no problem expressing why something drives them crazy. A key part of the lesson is that the kids get a chance to practice their rant and get feedback from their peers before they present to you for a summative assessment. Hopefully, that means you will get to sit back and enjoy some awesome presentations from your students!

This product includes a slideshow to guide your lesson and links to some of Rick Mercer's rants. There are graphic organizers to help students plan their rants, and rubrics they can use to give each other feedback. The instructions and the rubrics are editable so you can tweak them if needed.
