Writing skills get a rigorous workout without the students complaining, as they are so engaged in their projects! Publishing is big business and students will learn all the ropes as they publish their own magazine. Whether students are interested in fashion or sports, they will find creating a magazine fun. 10-12 week Project Based Learning Unit.
Students will learn the graphic arts skills needed as they layout their magazine. color, composition, font, headline, taglines and more will be common terms in their conversations as they discuss their product. They will create a publication that presents a variety of articles and features that rivals any they can find on magazine stands today.
They will interview and spotlight local events and people, crafting their ability to communicate through print. Twenty-first century skills are the focus of this unit as students develop the ability to work together, meeting their deadlines, and solving problems along the way that all publishers face.
The units are completely Teacher Friendly offering all primary resources with allowances for resources of your own. Instructional practices and the theories behind the practices are included as well. Finally, the unit includes simple, yet effective rubrics for the teacher to easily assess the students learning.
