Allow time for students to focus on and learn about their breathing! Do this all while implementing a Math focus as you count the number of breaths as the foundation for story problems and reflect on how your students' pulse relates to students' feelings!
Students begin this activity by going through their mindful movement for the day that is focused on finding pulse before the movement. Then they incorporate math into their breathing by learning how to count their pulse and calculating the number of pulse counts within different time periods.
Next students reflect on how their feelings relate to their pulse count. You can choose to complete the activity independently, in small groups or as a whole group. Students sort the feelings based on if they increase their pulse count or not. The activity ends with a reflection after going through the movement one more time. They finally reflect on "When you feel your Pulse Count rise, how can you bring your body back to a relaxed state?"
