Bring the fun of math and glyphs to the library media center! Use this pumpkin glyph to inspire students to create jack-o'lanterns that represent their unique reading interests. Kick off the lesson by reading seasonal books (such as The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything or Pumpkin Jack) to the students. Then, have them communicate their reading interests through their pumpkin glyphs. This activity can be done in class to promote listening skills and following directions or can be used as a center for independent work. When the glyphs are completed, use them to create a bulletin board, tally and chart results, or help students identify new books that might interest them.
