This booklet will lead you and your students through Pumpkin Day.
I do this activity in kindergarten with small groups and 4 or 5 parent helpers. We have 4 or 5 kids to each parent and they each have their own pumpkin. You could also do this whole group or have a few less helpers if you have older students.
We read through the booklet completing each activity as we go.
We begin by drawing what our pumpkin looks like, then choosing what size we think it is. Next we measure how tall our pumpkin is with cubes. Then we predict how heavy our pumpkin is and decide if we think it is heavy or light. Then we weigh it. We predict if it will sink or float, then we find out. We guess how many seeds there are, then we find out by counting our seeds into groups of 10. Last we vote on what kind of face we will carve for our pumpkin. Pumpkin Day Was Great! You may also want to have a pumpkin flavored treat or pumpkin seeds. This booklet is 11 pages long.
There is a question of the daypage. (Do you like pumpkin muffins?) and a senses page if you would like to use them with your pumpkin day activities.
I have done this activity since the first year that I taught kindergarten. There are a lot of math and science activities going on but the kiddos think it is just a fun day. A great day for pictures!
