Everyone loves a Pumpkin Day around Halloween! My 1st Graders loved spending a day investigating everything about our pumpkins and they especially loved their Investigation Journal to track all of their learning. These stations work great if you have parent volunteers to help run each one but can be done with you flyin’ solo as well.
*FIVE Page Investigation Journal
--Page 1: Observing Pumpkins and Counting Ridges (1 fill in the blank version, 1 write the words version)
--Page 2: Weighing Pumpkins
--Page 3: Measuring Pumpkins
--Page 4: Counting Seeds
--Page 5: Sink or Float?
*SIX Rotation Cards with Directions for Each Station
Each child will need one investigation journal. There are two to a page so they can easily be cut and stapled. Plus, you can print them front-to-back to save paper!
Split your class into 5 or 6 groups to go through as rotations or do each station whole group. The 6th station is coloring the Pumpkin Journal cover and can be utilized to make groups smaller.
Students move with their group to complete each activity. Most will be about 10-15 minutes.
