This project takes place over a 3-4 day period and is a fun and creative way to review the concepts of phenotype, genotype, traits, and Punnett squares (Genetics).
I have included all student handouts and templates as well as completed project samples. I have also included PPT slides to use on your Smart Board/Projector if you have one. They correlate to the student handouts provided.
* This file is 22 slides and is editable so you may modify it to fit your needs.
Four sided die (dice) – these can be bought on Amazon fairly cheaply. If you don’t have these you can use regular dice and if they roll a 5 or 6 the students would just have to re-roll.
Colored pencils or magic markers
Students will create a parent pumpkin with chosen traits. They will cross the parent pumpkin traits with a partner to create a Punnett Square for each trait (ie: eye color, teeth shape, nose shape etc.) Students roll dice and use the Punnett squares to determine what traits will be passed on to 6 offspring.
