This activity is designed for students to complete after they have listened to the story, Pumpkin Hill by Elizabeth Spurr. The book is available from Scholastic Book Clubs.
The activity incorporates the story elements of title, author, setting, characters, and problem/solution. It has the students think and respond to the beginning, middle, and end of the story. The last part asks the student to write their opinion of the story.
I have a listening center in my first grade classroom that the students use during rotation of small reading groups. I usually have my students complete a response to literature activity after listening to each story.. However, your students could complete the activity after you have read the story orally to them. Older students could read the book independently or with a partner. Most of my students will complete the activity independently; it could be done with a partner or in small groups. The book has an AR Reading Level of 4.1. Despite the higher level, my first graders really enjoyed this humurous story!
