Description

Pumpkin Measurement Activities

PUMPKIN MEASUREMENT ACTIVITIES INCLUDES:

  • 8 pumpkin cards to measure
  • 6 pumpkin squares for measuring

HOW TO USE PUMPKIN MEASUREMENT ACTIVITIES:

Measuring Cards: Students will use manipulatives (fun size Hershey bars, linking cubes, fish marbles, etc) to measure the pumpkins.

Pumpkin Squares: Students will use pumpkin squares to measure items around the room (toys, furniture, doors, etc) or themselves.

This is a great measuring activity to introduce students to the concept of measuring. It can also be used as students start using traditional units of measurement, since all the pumpkins measure to the inch.

Generate measurement data by measuring lengths of several objects to the nearest whole unit, or by making repeated measurements of the same object. Show the measurements by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in whole-number units.
Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.
Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen.
Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
