Work on categorization skills with this versatile product. Choose the categories you want to work on and place the corresponding backgrounds out. Take the pumpkins (at least five per category) and scatter them around and have the children put the pumpkins on the correct background. Another option is to have the pumpkins already on the background and have your students name the category. For children who can read or use the pictures on the background as cues, I will cover up the words/pictures.
You are able to sort by major categories: home, animals, food, clothing, vehicles and sports equipment. You are also able to sort within food and animal categories.
Food: fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, grain, sweets, breakfast, lunch, supper, desserts, healthy, unhealthy, fast foods and drinks.
Animals: farm, forest, African, arctic, ocean, pond, insects, birds, amphibians, and reptiles.
Print all the pages. Cut out the the background scenes. This will make it easier to mix and match the different category options. Cut out the different pumpkins. You can either cut around the pumpkins or cut along the grid lines. Laminate everything for durability.
Thanks for viewing this activity. I hope your students will enjoy it and you find it as valuable as I have. This works best as a single person activity or in a small group.
