An October lesson that incorporates melody, rhythm, instruments, improvisation and form while addressing the Orff and Kodaly music curriculum.

A perfect original song to teach to your elementary music students every fall, October or around Halloween time! Reading and identifying melodic patterns consisting Sol Mi La (SML) is addressed along with improvisation and instruments. Your students will love the engaging activities included in the lesson plan and the PowerPoint. In addition to reviewing melody the lesson also lends itself to reviewing half notes or eighth notes, quarter note, quarter rest. Two separate PowerPoint files are included for utilizing either the half note rhythmic work or the quarter note, quarter rest and 2 eighth notes beamed rhythmic work.

The set of Lesson Plans and PowerPoint interactive slides include:

• 5 lessons each 5-12 minutes (5 pdf pages) plus an original song (A section) and an original poem (B section) utilizing half notes and an adapted score utilizing eighth notes. The lesson plans include detailed instructions for teaching the song, poem, rhythmic activities, improvisation and melodic work (SML) to first, second and third grade utilizing half notes or eighth notes. Additional adaptions and extensions are also addressed for using the activities with Kindergarten.

• 66 slides created with PowerPoint 2010 (with 52 slides being teacher and student interactive) may be used to reinforce melodic reading and aurally identifying melodic patterns utilizing Sol Mi and La. You will have everything you need to teach all the lessons. PowerPoints work very well with Smartboards - just touch the board to activate the sound effects and the animations.

It is a perfect piece to address curricular concepts while enjoying making music.
