This Pumpkin Patch game is a perfect activity for your students during centers, small groups, partners, RTI sessions, or special education. It gets students to practice reading short vowel words, while having fun. They do not even realize they are learning and practicing important skills as they play!
This game includes short 'a' words. The following word families are included: -at, -an, -ap, -am, -ag, -ad
Directions: Cut out the pumpkin game cards, and place them in a pile in the middle. I recommend printing them on card stock for durability. Print out as many Pumpkin Patch game boards as needed (one for each player). I recommend laminating these since they can be reused. Players take turns drawing a card from the pile. If they get a pumpkin card, they read the word and place it on top of a pumpkin on their Pumpkin Patch game board. If they get a card with a slice of pie, they must return all of the pumpkins they have collected back to the pile. (Your pumpkins were baked into pies! Return all of your cards to the pile.) The first player to fill their game board wins.
Be sure to check out other versions of this game at my TPT store including: other short vowels, digraphs, silent 'e', and blends. Having multiple versions of the game makes it easy to differentiate lessons for the variety of learners within your classroom.
