Product Description
pumpkin-patch, printable books, take-home-book

This READING BOOKLET is perfect for the month of October when children go on a fieldtrip to the pumpkin patch and carve pumpkins.

"Find A Pumpkin" is a printable emergent text that uses high frequency sight words and vocabulary words. The list of words can be read from the back cover of the booklet after it is assembled.

The targeted sight words are:

in, the, to, a, it, and

The vocabulary words are:
home, pumpkin, find, patch, face, cute, spooky, carve, send, place, take

Both the black-line and color version of the booklet are included. The adorable graphics in this booklet have children visiting a pumpkin patch and carving a pumpkin. At the end of the story the jack-o-lantern is delivered to a "spooky" place.

The booklet can be sung to the tune of "Oh, My Darling Clementine". Listen to me sing the book by following the link to this blog post. Then scroll to the YouTube video. HERE

Or listen to the instrumental version at this website:

UPDATE OCTOBER 2015: I have added an alternate ending to this booklet in which the pumpkin is sent to a cat named "Chase" instead of a "Spooky" place. Choose the ending that fits your instructional needs!

Maximize the learning experience from the read aloud by using the student sight word cards and vocabulary word cards. These can be printed and provided to each child before or after reading the text. Measure your students' accuracy with this reading the booklet with the assessment tool included. This way, you'll know without a doubt who can read it independently and stage a copy of the book in those students' "Just Right" book tubs.

There are a total of four (single sided) pages required to make one booklet. Fold the pages staple together. No scissors or paper cutter involved!

I used a font called, "EZRead" (which may help developing readers) within the text of the "story". Another font is used for the front cover title and the glossary.
