This is lesson to introduce or to extend students' application of sorting, tabulating, and charting skills.
The lesson utilizes the Halloween theme, so you could run this as a timely activity.
The learning objectives for this lesson are for students to:
**Identify and name two-dimensional shapes
**Sort objects by given attributes
**Organize data into tables
**Represent data using bar charts
There are two sets of Pumpkin People given for this activity—Faces and Faces with Legs. Each Pumpkin Person can be cut up as a set of cards and give each group a pack.
You can choose whether you want to use Faces or the Faces with Legs for the whole class or provide half the class with just the Faces and half the class with Faces with Legs.
In either case there are multiple sorting scenarios associated with this lesson. Students can sort by one, two or three variables.
Included in this package are worksheets for students to record their data, Help Sheets for Tabulating data
You can choose which you need to use depending on the Grade Level and ability of the students in the class.
You can provide students with larger grid paper to represent their data or use the grid that comes with this package.
