This lesson uses an original poem to explore playing on barred instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, and metallophones). This lesson is very sequential and travels from the poem, body percussion, to playing on instruments. It is a great way to allow your students to play the barred instruments while focusing on their mallet technique rather than accompanying a song. After the instrument exploration, the lesson then moves into a focus on solfege and Curwen hand signs to create a rondo form piece of music. Included in this lesson is the sheet music for the poem, a printable page of sol-la-mi pumpkins, as well as lesson extensions.
