Product Description

A timely review of macromolecules well-suited for Thanksgiving or Halloween time! An information sheet connects pumpkin seeds to the four major groups of macromolecules - proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. An accompanying student worksheet asks questions that review macromolecule basics and draws out connections to pumpkin seeds. Answer key included. Provide students a pumpkin seed to sample while they work. Perhaps they've never tried them!

OR If you're digging the pumpkin seeds connection and looking to get hands-on, you could even try roasting them with your classes! Maybe experimenting with different seasoning flavors! :) A link to instructions for roasting pumpkin seeds is included. As students work, you might make connections with other areas of biology content, such as photosynthesis or reproduction of flowering plants (pumpkins have separate male and female flowers).
