This is a perfect fall experiment to use when introducing the scientific method. I first introduce the steps of the scientific method (question, hypothesis, experiment, observations, and conclusions) and explain each part. On the first page the students can draw a picture to help them remember what that step means. When done, they can cut out the pieces and try to put it in order with a neighbor. After that they can glue it in order in their science notebook. The second page includes a worksheet to go through the scientific method while doing the sink or float experiment. Buy a small pumpkin and get a bucket of water to go through the experiment. The pumpkin should float (of course, test this at home first :) ). Then the students can fold their worksheet in a fun way and glue into their science notebook. I hope you enjoy!
