Print, Cut and Go

Don’t you love pumpkin spice? Even if you don’t, It’s hard to resist these little pumpkin spice cuties. This fall themed set of 20 cards is useful to build and review the vocabulary associated with parallel lines and transversals as well as practicing solving for the unknown measure. I find that my students may be comfortable with the process of using parallel lines and transversals but struggle with the vocabulary, especially when it’s embedded in a word problem as it is often the case on a standardized test. For this reason I incorporated vocabulary into these cards, as well as having students solve for the measure of an angle. These can be using in a class as task cards, as a station/center or as a way to give additional instruction when you have finished 5 or 10 minutes early and need a quick activity to work through until the bell.

The following vocabulary is found in this activity:

• Vertical angle
• Supplementary angle
• Congruent
• Alternate interior angle
• Alternate exterior angle
• Corresponding angle
• Consecutive interior angle

A key is located at the end of the file.

Use congruence and similarity criteria for triangles to solve problems and to prove relationships in geometric figures.
Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles. For example, arrange three copies of the same triangle so that the sum of the three angles appears to form a line, and give an argument in terms of transversals why this is so.
