Reading books with our students is important, but finding time to indulge in literacy when you're limited to a 30-60 minute therapy session is hard! Picture books are often a great choice for shorter time frames, but many activities created for them focus on functional skills or skills for younger students. With my 3rd graders and up in mind, I decided to work on creating materials for older students that can accompany picture books.

This unit focuses on 4 areas of instruction: comprehension, vocabulary, grammar/sentence structure, and social skills.

There are 3 types of activities in this unit for Pumpkin Town:

1 | Worksheets

There are 2 worksheets for each area of instruction. The worksheets are set up to be able to naturally divide the book into 2 sessions, if desired, with one worksheets for each half of the book.

2 | Task/Sorting Cards

The task/sorting card activities are set up similar to the worksheets, with the ability to divide into 2 sessions.

3 | Writing Pages

The writing pages provide a little more variety. Retell, narrative writing, comparing and contrasting, and creating lists can be used across 2 sessions or at the end of the book.
