It's time to transform a few ordinary pumpkins into your favorite book characters! This engaging project involves having students work in pairs or small groups to transform a pumpkin...yes, a real pumpkin!... into a book character via creativity! Students are allowed to select a character, design their transformation, and give their pumpkin a first-class makeover via paint, sequins, yarn, and more! Throughout this project students are presented with mini-lessons and follow up activities to reinforce the following skills: narrative structure & the character's role in their narrative, identifying character traits and providing textual evidence, point of view, and fact and opinion. The project is introduced in a slideshow with specific instructions, photos of examples, and then daily goals/activities related to reading skills and the pumpkin transformation. In addition, I've provided links to various resources (graphic organizers and more!) and valuable tips that will help your week of pumpkins to begin, continue, and end smoothly! The required assignments for this project (aside from decorating the pumpkin) are great opportunities to review and present mini-lessons about these important skills. Have a blast! I welcome any feedback that you can provide during and after your Pumpkins Galore experience! ? Enjoy!
