I created this pack of leveled readers (and intend to create more) because I was unhappy with the readers that came with the reading series that my district adopted. They all sounded something like this: “Tam can see a ham. Pat can see a hat. Lin and Ben see tin.” Too much sounding out, too little comprehension, nothing meaningful to my students. So, I decided to make leveled readers to use in guided reading that go along with what we are learning about. This pack is all about pumpkins. The approaching reader is about the parts of a pumpkin and the on level and beyond readers are about pumpkin life cycles.
I included three levels, each of which can be previewed in the images above:
The first image is for the approaching students. The teaching focus for this book is having students use picture clues and tracking print correctly.
The second image is for the on level students. The teaching focus is using picture clues and writing some sight words.
The third image is for the beyond students. The teaching focus is using picture clues, writing sight words, and pausing between two sentences.
Each book is black and white so students can color and 6-7 pages.
