This 2-day lesson (and 10-page packet) introduces and teaches how to punctuate dialogue in a fun way! Students punctuate jokes! What's included in the first lesson: an introduction that makes students discover the rules of punctuation; specific jokes to teach from; an activity involving a piece of candy handed to each student (they love it and this goes perfectly with the lesson - it's not just giving candy to give candy - you actually use it during the lesson); a reproducible 3-page in-class handout; an answer key for the class handout; two homework handouts involving more jokes, including a comic strip to punctuate! The second day involves musical chairs. The students love this, too! They use their homework and quietly edit their fellow peers' jokes. The only thing you need to prep for this second day is to have some music to play periodically!
Supplies needed: a bag of candy (specified in the lesson), some music, an overhead (if possible).
