PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Punctuation Mark Headbands
These headbands are a great way to teach children to identify the period, question mark, & exclamation mark, and when they are used in a sentence. Make them as you teach each punctuation mark. Children will see this mark all day.
Activities Using 1 Punctuation Headband:
Call children to get in line or go to different areas in the room by the color they colored their large punctuation mark. “All yellow question marks go to the rug.”

The teacher will say a sentence. If the punctuation mark needed to end the sentence is on the children’s headband, they will stand up. Ask the children why they would use the mark at the end of the sentence.

Pair up children. Each child will name the punctuation mark their buddy has on. They will tell when you use the punctuation mark. Each child will give a sentence that uses this end mark.

Activities Using All 3 Punctuation Headband:
The teacher will say a sentence. The children will stand up if their punctuation mark should go at the end of the sentence.

Call children to get in line or go to different areas in the room by the punctuation mark they have on. “All periods get in line.”

The teacher can start a pattern with the children and their punctuation mark headbands by having them come to the front. She will then ask what punctuation mark should come next. Children that have on that punctuation mark band will raise their hand. The teacher will call the child to come up. Continue until the pattern is complete.

Have the children sort themselves by punctuation mark. Count how many of each punctuation mark you have and tell which you have more of, less of, or the same of.

Pair up children. Each child will name the punctuation mark their buddy has on. They will tell when you use the punctuation mark. Each child will give a sentence that uses this end mark.

The teacher will give the purpose of each mark. The children that have on this mark will stand up.

Copy the headbands on card stock. The children will color the punctuation marks and the children. Add bands to the headband and staple or tape it around the child’s head. Have the children write the end mark on the bands or write a sentence using the punctuation mark on the headband. You could use a sentence strip instead of the bands.
