These Push the Sound Boards are used as a tool to help students “sound out” words. When reading or writing a word, often teachers will tell a student to “sound it out” or even “stretch it out.” While it makes sense to the teacher, often times students don’t understand what they are supposed to do. This board is designed to help students isolate the sounds they hear when writing or see when reading a word.
Included are sound boards consisting of multiple designs. This way you can choose what works best for you in your classroom. (There are 14 different designs in all.)
I like to have a set of these laminated to use at the teacher’s small group table. I also laminate one for each student and tape it to their desk. This is an especially helpful tool when students are writing and need help “sounding out” words.
