This resource features a variety of questions you can use to further develop your students’ comprehension skills after reading. The questions can be used for guided reading groups, literature circles, after read alouds, during whole class shared reading activities, for partner discussions after independent reading, for Reading Buddies (see additional unit), or for literacy centers.
These questions are designed to take students beyond basic recall and challenge them to stretch their minds. They require students to look between the lines and make connections.
There are five different groups of questions – one for each story element. You can choose to focus on all of the questions for one particular element, or you can use questions for a variety of categories to strengthen students’ overall comprehension.
You may want to assemble the questions together on a ring and hang near your whole group area and/or put a set in your guided reading materials for easy access during reading activities.
