Puzzle Academic Language (PAL) can be implemented into your Physical Education class in a variety of ways. *Post the Puzzle Academic Language when introducing the word.
*Use Puzzle Academic Language on a word wall
*Use for a class discussion or review. With a magnetized marker board: Cut the puzzle into pieces, laminate and add magnetic strips to the back. Choose 2-4 Puzzle Academic Language words to review and place one puzzle piece from each word on the marker board. Hand out the remaining pieces and have student complete the puzzles by putting the magnetized puzzle pieces together on the marker board.
*Relays: Make a set of Puzzle Academic Language words for each team that will run a relay. For example: You will have eight teams and would like to review jump, hop and leap. Make 8 copies of each word, laminate and cut out the puzzle pieces. Give each team the top piece from the words of such as tuck, pike and straddle. Scatter the remaining pieces at the other end of the gym. Have students complete the puzzles. (Use a Visa Visa marker to add exercises to the back of the laminated puzzle pieces. You can wipe off and put a new exercise on the puzzle piece this way. Teams must do the exercise before getting another puzzle piece.)
