This ❤ Google Interactive Activity ❤
is an engaging practice of identifying the main characteristics of "Exponential & Logarithmic Parent Function"
This activity allows students to practice identifying the main features of the "Exponential Parent Function and its inverse the Logarithmic Parent Function".
In this activity students will be asked to Drag & Drop
the puzzle pieces to complete a given chart. To complete this chart, students would need to:
❶. The Rule of the function [f(x) = 2^x vs. g(x) = log2 (x)]
❷. Domain of each Parent Function
❸. Range of each Parent Function
❹. y-intercept of each Parent Function
❺. x-intercept of each Parent Function
❻. Horizontal Asymptote of each Parent Function
❼. Vertical Asymptote of each Parent Function
❽. Graph of each Parent Function
❾. How is the function relates to Real World Applications
Students will work with 18 Puzzle Pieces
and is asked to match these pieces to their correct Parent Function. Students should be able to complete such chart without the use of a graphing calculator.
Here are different Options to use this activity:
Assign only the Exponential Parent Function when introducing. Then, go back to this activity when its time to work with the inverse of the Exponential Parent Function, the Logarithmic Parent Function, and assign the other half of the activity. Students would need to recognize the "Inverse" relationship between these two parents.
Assign both parent functions after introducing both functions and ask students to complete the chart
Students would complete this chart as part of an ongoing assessment. I have included a "Hard Copy" of this chart.
math centers, group work, a way to check for understanding, a review, recap of the lesson, pair-share, cooperative learning, exit ticket, entrance ticket, homework, individual practice, when you have time left at the end of a period, beginning of the period (as a warm up or bell work), before a quiz on the topic, substitute planning, and more.
My students found this chart very helpful. It helped them build very important bridges between these two parent functions.
