Every child can use a little bit of help with those tricky words that can not be sounded out phonetically. This set of puzzle words is meant to be printed and cut into flash cards. Students can work on their own, with another student or with an adult to go through the cards. The process should be fast; the child flips over a card and tries to pronounce the word. If they are correct, the card is placed in the "correct" pile. If they get it wrong, the card is placed in another pile. When the child has gone through the original stack of cards, it is important that they then go through the "incorrect" pile again with assistance. The person helping them should pronounce the word correctly several times and encourage the child to do the same.
