### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

In this activity, students must simplify 12 algebraic expressions by applying the distributive property or by combining like terms. Each expression is on a puzzle piece, and students must find 3 expressions that simplify to the same expression. Using the 3 puzzle pieces that have matching expressions, students build four different small puzzles.

This resource includes 2 sets of puzzle pieces; each set has 12 puzzle pieces. The 2 sets are different levels of difficulty. This resource includes a record sheet where students assemble the puzzles and write the simplified expressions. An answer key is also included.

In Set A, 7 puzzle pieces require students to combine like terms and 5 puzzle pieces require students to apply the distributive property. Expressions have integers only. Terms include x-squared, x, y, and constant terms.

In Set B, 4 puzzle pieces require students to combine like terms, 3 puzzle pieces require students to apply the distributive property, and 5 puzzle pieces require students to apply the distributive property AND combine like terms. Two of the above pieces require students to distribute a fraction. Terms include x-squared, x, y, and constant terms.
