This BINGO activity consists of 18 problems and 24 unique bingo cards. The problems incorporate the following skills: Pythagorean Theorem, Distance Formula, and Midpoint Formula. There are also problems in which the students are required to find the missing endpoint when given the midpoint. This activity is a perfect way to review before a test and the kids really love it!
1. Print and distribute bingo cards. You may want to laminate them for future use.
2. If you choose to reuse the cards, the students will need markers or chips. If not, they can simply cross off the answers with their pencil.
3. Hand out scratch paper as the students will be required to solve each problem using the formulas and strategies they’ve learned in class.
4. Using an interactive whiteboard, project each problem one at a time. Each problem is on a separate page, so this works well. If you are unable to project the problems, you can read each problem aloud and/or write them on the board. Most are very simple illustrations.
Provide ample wait time in between problems so that every student is able to solve the problem and find the solution on their card.
Winning the game:
Short version (takes about 15 minutes) - The object is to get 4 in a row - horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Long version (takes about 25 minutes) - The object is to get all of the answers that “frame” the card (the outside perimeter - 12 boxes). This will take longer and provide more review!
After the first winner calls “Bingo”, I keep going (because the kids do not want to stop playing!) and generally end up with several winners in each class.
