I have many students who have a really hard time with the Pythagorean Theorem. I designed this as a progression tool. A student will start with using the graphic organizers for word problems. If you laminate these students can use dry erase markers to locate the key words and put time in their proper place on a right triangle. As they show mastery can remove the graphic organizer and start drawing their own triangles on scratch paper.
•3 graphic organizers (finding the hypotenuse, finding leg a, and finding leg b)
•2 sets of matching task cards. (12 questions finding the hypotenuse, 12 mixed missing leg questions.)
•2 matching student answer sheets and teacher keys
I used this in my own class and the students who were using it felt very confident after just one day! I actually laminated the two missing leg graphic organizers back to back. I set up this station with a dry erase marker and eraser so that the student used the organizer for their work and then just wrote the answer on the answer sheet!
