PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a project that applies the Pythagorean Theorem to a real world situation. I designed the project that centers around Balboa Park in San Diego, CA, but have formatted this copy so that you may rename the project and change certain guidelines as it fits your school / city.

The project utilizes a method in which students analyze word problems by answering a series of questions related to things such as key words, solving it with math, and solving it with words. They then practice randomly generated Py Th word problems on a given website while drawing related pictures and looking for context clues. The next step of the project involves students separating into group and each group assigned a different object. Their object's height will be measure at which point they will create their own word problem based on their measurement.

The final step has students typing up a clear and concise version of their problem. Each group then receives and tries to solve all of the other groups' problems.

I implemented this as a method of reciprocal teaching so that students may have a project that:

empowers, switches roles, and engages through hands-on work.

ENJOY!
