Scavenger Hunt Activities are a perfect way for students to practice specific math concepts! This set contains problems using the Pythagorean Theorem. There are basic problems in which the students are required to find the length of a missing side (leg or hypotenuse). In addition, there are several word problems for which they may need to draw diagrams prior to using the Pythagorean Theorem. There are also problems in which they will use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the perimeter or the area of a parallelogram.
Each activity consists of 12 problems that focus on a specific concept. Students select a problem from the stack, solve it on the provided answer sheet, and then find their answer on one of the remaining cards, which gives then a new problem to solve.
You can also post the problems around the classroom to get the students up and out of their seats to "hunt" for the next problem! I've included a large set of problems if this is your preference.
My students love these fun, engaging, activities and I use them often! They especially enjoy being able to instantly check their answers as they work through the problems. (If their answer isn't in the pile, they did something wrong!) This encourages them to self-assess and motivates them to go back and find their own mistakes…how great is that??
*Throughout the set, problems become increasingly difficult, so you may choose to provide selected students with their first card ~ a simpler problem ~ to start the activity. This way, they can solve the easier problems first and build confidence before moving onto the more difficult problems. This is a great way to meet their individual needs.
