This task can be used as an activity and/or assessment. It is great for formal or informal observations. Before this task is given students should be familiar with the concept of Pythagorean Theorem because they will use the formula to help police solve an art theft at Dustin’s Art Gallery. The problem with most Pythagorean Theorem tasks is that students are told to use the theorem and therefore lacks any challenge. The beauty of this task is that Pythagorean Theorem is never mentioned throughout the entire assignment and students must recognize from the clues given that they must use the Pythagorean Theorem to help the police solve the art theft.
