This worksheet has 6 problems with one extra credit problem. Extra credit tends to motivate some students. There are standard, modified, and answer key worksheets provided. Common core standard listed (8th grade). The first problem is the simplest using squares that most students know. Problems #2 and 3 has a variation with decimals. Ensure student round properly; “Five or more raise the score, four or less let it rest.” Problems #4 and 5 has a variation with larger numbers. Problem #6 the variation is that students must deduce the length of the legs. The extra credit has the hypotenuse given and student must find the area of perimeter of the figure.
Note: My philosophy for worksheets. If worksheet has a modified sheet, this is for my ELL, remedial, and my inclusion students. A modified sheet will have one of the problems worked out. This allows student to see how I want their answer arranged. Most of the students will receive the regular worksheet without modifications. I try to allow the last ten minutes of class for students to work independently on their homework. Because I know what misconceptions they will make it is easy for me to walk around help the students. If a student completes their homework then they are allowed to check their answers with the answer key. All of my worksheet has an answer key. I have points in a blue outlined text for each problem this allows students to score each problem in class during grading. While grading student put the number correct over the total points; then they must finding the percent from the fraction. If you find errors regards how small please e-mail me and inform me so I can make corrections.
