Kids just love graphics. Why not graphics by coding? Let's teach kids how to control basic turtle draw commands, then repetition and finally combining the two concepts together. This unit gives you everything: student handouts, answer keys, assessments, a culminating activity and two tests. Everything you need to teach a student how to control output on a computer screen.
This is ideal for classrooms where the seating is tight. There are three different versions of student handouts for this unit. This includes the culminating activity! The versions would be given consecutively around the room so that students sitting together would each get something slightly different. This way students have different examples of the same exercise so they can work together to determine how something works. It also minimizes the amount of copying within the class. Unit 3 Animation (3 Versions) is the next step in this series.
Concepts & skills have been broken down into short chunks. Students are given short code fragments to explore, followed by questions to consolidate their learning. Three assessments have been provided at appropriate intervals. They are also asked to reflect on their learning and provided terminology to begin a programming dictionary. The unit ends with a culminating activity followed by a test so students can demonstrate their mastery of the concepts and materials presented in this unit.
