Are your students struggling with comprehension and you aren't quite sure where to go from here. A strategy known as QAR will help. QAR stands for Question-Answer-Relationship. This strategy helps students look at a question and figure out if he/she will have to go back to one spot in the story (right there), think and search (go to multiple spots in the story), author and you (use clues from the story and what is in your head, on my own (use background knowledge). Ex: A plot development type question (characters, setting, problem, solution) would be a right there question because the answer can be found in one spot in the text. This sheet is a great reference guide when working on any type of questions.
