QAR is a tool to teach students how to approach the task of reading texts and answering questions. By reviewing the 4 different types of questions one can create, students will realize the need to consider information in the text and information from their own background knowledge.
Different Ways of Using QAR Chart
-After reading a text have students categorize/analyze the questions they will answer independently or with a partner as well as providing a reason why the question fits that category.
-After reading a text have the students create questions based on the QAR categories. Use these questions to create a worksheet, study guide, and/or possible test questions.
-As they read their Independent Reading books, have the students create questions based on the QAR categories and they can turn these in instead of a summary.
-In Literature Circles, have the questioner use this sheet as a guide to create questions for their group.
The assignments are endless with this sheet!!
