This assignment includes differentiated primary sources describing the Mandate of Heaven, the Dynastic Cycle and the Reign of Shi Huang Di. I have meticulously modified each primary source to accommodate for different reading levels. One handout is for middle school level readers, the other for 9th and 10th grade level readers. and one for 11th and 12th grade readers. The academic vocabulary is underlined and the content vocabulary is in bold. Following the handouts is a choice board, students select a summary assignment to showcase their understanding of the Dynastic Cycle and Shi Huang Di's rule. The choice board includes four possible assignments which appeals to all eight intelligences in Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence research. It is an ideal assignment for product differentiation. Additionally, there is a common core self-assessment rubric as well as TWO possible exit slips to summarize the lesson in which students visually and verbally describe how Confucius would view Shi Huang Di's leadership and how they view Shi Huang Di's leadership.
