This QR code creation was created to help students practice letters and beginning sounds while tapping into students love of technology. In order to use this creation, you will need a smartphone or tablet with internet access. You will also need to download a QR code reader app. There are many free apps available. I use the SCAN app which is free. Once you have downloaded and installed the app on your device, you are ready to get started.
Print and laminate the QR cards. Cut apart. Print the recording sheets fort each set of cards. There are uppercase letters, lowercase letters and initial sound picture cards included. You can differentiate the activities by using the various recording sheets. The cards are differentiated by different color magnifying glasses!
You can set this activity up as a write the room center or you can make it a stationary center so students do not have to carry the technology around the room.
Students open the app and point the phone at the QR code. The reader will scan the app. The app will read the code and a picture or letter will appear. Students will read the letter or say the sound. Students can use the included recording sheets to record their learning.
There are multiple options for using this center:
Letter recognition: student scans the card (upper case blue magnifying glass; lower case yellow magnifying glass). The letter appears. Student names the letter and colors that letter on their sheet.
Sounds: Student scans the card (red magnifying glass). A letter appears. Student reads the letter and says the sound. They find the picture that starts with that sound and color the picture.
Sounds: Student scans the card (red magnifying glass). A picture appears. Student names the picture and says the initial sound. They find the letter for that sound and color it.
