I created this product for my own students (Kindergarten) because I had been looking for a way to incorporate technology and the CCSS for rhyming and fluency! I also wanted a way for my students to work independently at reading centers. Each mini-booklet includes three QR codes: the first is to a video of the rhyme, the second is to an audio recording of the rhyme, and the third is to an audio recording that reads the responding question to students. The audio recording reads each rhyme 2x: the first time it reads the rhyme from start to finish and students follow along. The second time, the recording goes back to the beginning of the rhyme to search for rhyming words. Students follow along and color code the rhyming words! Please note that the QR code links to YouTube, where I have stored the audio recordings.
The following rhymes are included:
Jack and Jill
Little Miss Muffet
Wee Willie Winkie
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
One, Two, Buckle My Shoe
Itsy Bitsy Spider
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Hey Diddle Diddle
I use the Daily Five in my classroom and these booklets are ideal.
1.) Listen to Reading: Students listen to the audio recording and follow along
2.) Word Work: Students hunt for rhyming words
3.) Read to Someone: Students read their booklets to each other
4.) Read to Self: Students read the booklets independently
5.) Work on Writing: Students complete the word work page.
6.) Small group: We talk about rhyming words and read the books together
You can also have students glue these mini books into their interactive notebooks instead of stapling together.
These books are great for teaching fluency as well.
Students love to take them home and read them with their families! They also love to color the pages and make it "their own"!
We use the Reading Wonders Curriculum, many of the rhymes included in this product are also included in Reading Wonders (there are also additional rhymes). This product will work with any curriculum and addresses CCSS well.
